James E.
Bolin, Jr.

James Bolin, Jr., recognized for excellence and as a
statewide industry and community leader throughout his
legal career, co-founded Sockrider, Bolin, Anglin & Batte
with H.F. Sockrider, Jr. in 1979.

A prolific seminar presenter and author for numerous publications including Louisiana Bar Journal, Louisiana Law Review, and Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association’s The Trial Brief, Mr. Bolin is Past President of the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association as well as the Shreveport Bar Association, and served on numerous committees over the years with both organizations. He is a Lifetime Member of the Board of Governors, Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association (later renamed American Association of Justice). His A-V rating is the highest possible with Martindale Hubbell Law Directory and he was consistently named to “Louisiana Super Lawyers” from 2007 forward. Mr. Bolin is also Past King of the Krewe of Justinian, Shreveport Bar Association’s Mardi Gras Krewe.

Mr. Bolin, a graduate of Minden High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, and later his J.D. at LSU Law School. While there, he was also a member of Louisiana Law Review. He is a military veteran, having served in the United States Army in the Far East —primarily in Okinawa — from 1963-1965. Mr. Bolin retired in 2020 and resides with his wife, Mary Gray Bolin, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

1938-2017

H.F. Sockrider, Jr., former President of Sockrider, Bolin, Anglin & Batte, A.P.L.C. was dedicated to providing clients with exceptional service and value. Considered one of Louisiana’s premier family law practitioners, he was often sought to share his expertise as a speaker, teacher, attorney and consultant. Mr. Sockrider passed away in 2017, but his exceptional ethics, values and legacy of professionalism and dedication to his law practice and clients live on at Sockrider, Bolin, Anglin & Batte.

Prior to establishing the law firm with James Bolin, Jr. in 1979, Mr. Sockrider earned his J.D. at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he was an honor graduate of LSU Law School and Managing Editor of Louisiana Law Review. He enjoyed a long and distinguished career practicing family law as a board certified family law specialist and recognized industry leader in the state of Louisiana. He was Past President of Louisiana State Bar Association, a Fellow in The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and maintained long-standing affiliations with the Louisiana Bar Association, the Louisiana and American Trial Lawyers Associations, the Louisiana Law Institute, and the Harry V. Booth and Henry A. Politz Inn of Court. His work in advancing the statewide law industry and devotion to his clients and community continue to inspire our team today.
